After Everything we keep, I was dying for more. I was so excited to see that this had been released and downloaded it immediately. After becoming emotionallly invested in the characters in the first book I was anxious to know what happened next. The entire storyline is so heartbreaking and although I feel like most of the main characters are able to find some sort of peace, I can't help but wish for what could have/should have been. I wish that Aimee had been featured more in this book and although I know there will be another book, I feel like it left too much unanswered with what will happen with James. I enjoyed Ian in the first book but I fear that the third will be all about him and less about Aimee, James, etc... I also wish that these books were much longer.I was able to finish this in one day and now have to wait another year until the next book comes out. I gave this five stars because I couldn't put it down and it's been quite awhile since a book has made me feel so deeply for its characters. I love Kerry's writing style and can't wait for more.
Wow, wow, WOW! After I read Everything We Keep I couldn't stop talking about it. I was thrilled that Kerry Lonsdale was going to write a follow-up and could not wait to read it. I was given an ARC and can tell you that this one was totally worth the wait! I loved every chapter and was sucked into the story from the very first sentence. So many emotions play out in this one. As a parent, my heart was breaking for Carlos' boys. I cannot imagine how hard this would be to live through. I wish we would have heard more from Amy (can I be hopeful to think we may in the future?).Thank you for an awesome read!
It was s mess to read, going back and forth by years and months. You never really were clear on what mental time zone you were suppose to be in. Terrible writing style. Would have been a decent book if the author had written in a normal forward manner
I immediately started this after reading Everything We Keep and candidly wasn't sure that my emotions could handle a similar ride so soon after. The angst of Behind is a different from Keep but no less gripping - I hurt for James/Carlos in circumstances they could not control as I hurt for Aimee in Keep. The way James' story played out was very satisfying with several twists that kept me caught up needing to have the pieces come together. Also really loved where things were left with James and Nat - it felt just right rather than contrived to tie things up in a neat bow.
I was hoping for so much more from this novel. The first one, Everything We Keep, really moved me and had me thinking about the complexities of relationships. This was a dud. James tells his story, but it is too rushed and unbelievably wrapped up neatly with a bow. Had a hard time seeing how waking up to realize you lost 7 years of your life, and gained a marriage and two kids you dont remember, could be overcome in a few months without professional help. And the jump into being with the sis in law was too much.fir me. I get he needed support and Natalya had info on his most recent past, but getting over the only woman he remembers loving (Aimee) in a matter of weeks for a virtual stranger was unbelievable. And the implication his "body" remembered Natalya was ridiculous. If that was the case, when he was Carlos, his body should have really remembered Aimee!! Save your money and skip to the third book. Everything We Give. It returns to first book formula of making you think and feel.
This was a tough book to write because the love that Aimee had for James/Carlos was so special. Picking up that strain of emotion was not an easy task. Unfortunately the format that this author used was difficult to immerse oneself in. It wasn't until the last few chapters that you had any hope that James/Carlos would ever find peace and happiness. I really like Kerry Lonsdale but I think that it is time to put these characters to sleep.
The second book of Kerry Lonsdale’s series was a terrific read. I enjoyed every page. As I read, I thought, “Poor Carlos!†He was very satisfied with his life. He had the love of a good woman, two wonderful boys, and a bourgeoning career as a painter. Then one day he woke up as James. He didn’t know where he was, who his children and girlfriend were, and what he’d been doing for the last six years. He gradually reconstructs his life and memories. The novel is told in alternating viewpoints (James and Carlos), and time frames. In the hands of an unskilled author, this novel could have been very confusing. But because Ms. Lonsdale is an excellent author, the story was easy to follow and very entertaining. The characters were realistic and human. The reader is always rooting for Carlos/James and hoping he finds a life of love, family, and fullfillment. The novel ends on a happy note. Lacey the psychic counselor finds James on the beach and gives him her card, thereby setting up the basic scenario for book 3.I can’t wait for July 2018 when “Everything We Give†will be released!
This only got 3 stars from me for one reason only: Too much back and forth, previous to present! It was difficult keeping everything straight! A few times would have been perfect. I got to the place where everything kept being replicated...I found I really didn't care what happened in the end to Carlos/James. That being said, the story line was a very interesting one and the characters were likable and well rounded. I just wish they and their story could have been presented in a less tedious way.
