"No Direction Home" was one of the most awe-inspiring books I have read in my life. The life and struggle Mr. Cayea endured made for a gripping story. I could not put this book down since every page was more shocking than the last. It is hard to believe that someone could have gone through all that happened to Mr. Cayea, let alone at such a young age, and have the ability to share his experience in such an eloquent way. Where the story left off kept me wanting more, and since this book is part of "The Drifter Chronicles", I can't wait for Mr. Cayea to release the next volume in the series.
Captivating read!! I couldn't put this book down. Greg captures the mind of an addict and alcoholic - the words literally jump off of the page. He truly illustrates an impeccable picture of his story - I felt like I was living through it myself. I am anxiously awaiting volume 2!! I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone looking for a journey through the life of a young addict who has overcome adversity and struggles. I laughed out loud and almost cried!
OMG! It is hard to believe that this stuff really happened, but it did. The book is an excellent read, and really put me into Greg's life. Warning, the book is R-rated for language and sex, but it also grabs you so you're into it in a hurry and don't want to put it down. I'm amazed Greg survived all the abuse and came out of it whole, but he did. Many others didn't. He made the others in the book so real that I still wonder what happened to the ones who got out alive. Maybe one day he'll tell us. I highly recommend it.
Greg has done a masterful job at bringing some very personal experiences to life in this book. I can personally attest to the writings regarding Hidden Lake Academy as I was there with Greg and witnessed much of what is written about firsthand. Greg makes the reader really feel the situations, and has done a fantastic job with leaving me, the reader, wanting more.I would certainly recommend this book to anyone looking for a bit of "cant put it down" adventure.I look forward to the next book in the series and hope to find it just as pleasing. I know he has been working on plenty of other adventures to keep readers busy for some time to come!
I simply couldn't put this down and tore through it in a couple of days - what a feeling to find a story like that which grips you and compels you to just keep reading. Cayea is a master of scene creation, whipping up characters from his past into relatable and known figures effortlessly and quickly. As we follow his harrowing tale around the country, we are drawn into the dark inner emotionscapes of a lost teenage soul, the culture of repressive treatment centers, and life on the margins for runaway youth. If you like coming of age tales, substance use stories, or just great storytelling, don't sleep on this.
Excellent..I absolutely loved this story and look forward to his next book. Reading this story inspires those that have gone thru this journey and are still stuggling to find their way. There is hope. Keep fighting.. Having had a loved one fight thru this disease and come out on the other side is inspiring. Hope your message continues to touch others . I have already recommended this to many friends. Couldn't put it down. I'm cheering for you. Look forward to meeting you one day.
I knew i wanted to read this book after stumbling across and reading Greg's blog, ScrambledGregs. Once i started i couldnt put it down. The authors ability to tell his story kept me hooked, and i found myself identifying with him although weve lived two very different lives. The authors presence and sense of humor shines through in his writing and he made me care and feel compassion towards him as i read about his journey. I truely enjoyed reading this book and i look forward to reading more from this author
