From the Back Cover

Blessed Are the Small Our culture's infatuation with bigness--bigger cars, bigger houses, bigger businesses--has infiltrated the church. But smaller doesn't equal second-rate. Leadership Journal editor and former pastor Brandon O'Brien shows how small churches are uniquely equipped for success in today's culture. O'Brien celebrates churches that are taking full advantage of their small size and analyzes how other churches can learn from their strategies. For example, strategically small churches:facilitate a higher level of commitment from laypeoplefocus attention on fewer programs, increasing effectivenessnurture close relationships across age and life-experience barriersBut perhaps most important, O'Brien asks churches to rethink what it means to be successful. Sometimes small is just right. "Kudos to Brandon O'Brien for reshaping the small-church brand. Using real-life examples of 'small' as an intentional ministry strategy, O'Brien gives hope to small churches everywhere. A must-read for church leaders!" Chuck Warnock, Author of Confessions of a Small-Church Pastor"Every page paints a picture of the strategic potential for kingdom ministry that flows from smaller churches."Kara E. This book is not just for pastors of the smaller church. It is for anyone who begun to see the pitfalls of the typical past mentality of mega-church ministry - that big is necessarily better for advancing God's kingdom. The author points to many potential strengths of the smaller church when it comes to effective ministry Good read!

Solid starter book on the strategic strengths inherent in the small church. This is not a book advocating churches remain intentionally small, per se, but a call to change our perspective and realize that God has big plans for the small church if we make ourselves available for Kingdom purposes. Full of anecdotes and real-church situations that illustrate the main points. Good book for discussion with your church board. 4 1/2 stars.

Perhaps it's because I grew up in a small church, but this book was extremely relevant and helpful to me. It is well written and only took me a couple days to actually read through it.The author covers the positives and negatives of being a small church, and encourages more focus on God's leading rather than "current trends" in the congregation. The author also includes notes and interviews with church leaders across America who have small churches and what they have been doing. He challenges us to re-think a "successful" church, that it's not about Numbers but about Spritiual Growth.I would highly recommend this book to anyone in small churches especially, as it encouraged me from my dissapointments and negativity, to remember that God is working everywhere in a way we don't always have to understand.

My local church has 10 people and we often experience the guilt of small-church-syndrome. It's nice to know that like 90% of churches in the United States of America have less than 500 people.I have this hidden (okay, I just made it public) dream to plant a church that plants other churches...and this book gives me (and others like me) a definition of success that doesn't require a 7,000 person congregration to be successful.A refreshing voice highlighting the benefits of strategical smallness in a world obsessed with bigness. And overall, a really, really good read.

It's nice to read a book which thoughtfully challenges the prevailing assumptions about the metrics of success and methods for building the kingdom. Good, practical examples helps contextualize his theories.

This is a great book for pastors of small churches to read. It clearly points out the unique strengths and advantages that smaller churches have and refutes the axiom that "bigger is always better".

Thank you Brandon. I serve a small NM church and I appreciated your insights

While bigger is not necessarily bad it is also not necessarily better. The Strategically Small Church presents a strong and helpful case for small, missional churches that have significant impact for Jesus Christ where they are and and because of who they are. Thank you!
